Leaving the Past Behind

Mellow Kraft

If we jump forward to a year from now,
what message would we give our current selves.

What would our future selves
feel proud about achieving during 2020
& what things would we be happy
to have left behind.


I also used a graphic from
Nicole Warrington
on the reverse of the art journal card.

I used torn dictionary paper,
words cut from an old novel,

I used a Tim Holtz Paper Doll &
a Distress Marker (black soot).

The journal prompt this week
from France Papillon was
Now that ...


I chose to use a quotation by William Morris.


"The true secret
of happiness
lies in taking
a genuine interest
in all the details
of daily life.
"

I found the poem this week on display
in a hospital waiting room,
on a noticeboard about memory loss.


The butterfly & caterpillars were cut out
from this week's Waitrose & Partners
Weekend newspaper.

The illustrations are by
Ann Edwards.


Change is something that is inevitable
& whilst it may not always be welcome,
it should never be feared.


I also used a black Sakura Pigma Micron pen,
 & photo corners by Paperchase.

I am using Tim Holtz idea-ology kraft paper stash
for the bases of the
Art Journal Cards & Inchies.

The Kindness of Strangers

I used a Dina Wakley Media Stencil
with a black Sakura Pigma Micron pen,
together with a Tim Holtz Paper Doll,
words cut out from an old edition
of Pride & Prejudice
on Tim Holtz Resist Kraft Paper
& a number 5 sticker.

I am working in a small Black Cloth Hardback Sketchbook
by Seawhite of Brighton.

The paper is 140gsm.

A Mellow Year

The start of my
Mellow Kraft
Journal
my art project for 2020.


Creating one page a week
throughout the year,
using a format that enables me
to create individual pieces
during each week
& pulling it all together
on the final day.

I used torn dictionary paper,
words cut from an old novel
& printed text.

for the bases of the Art Journal Cards
& Inchies.

washi tape,
gems,
a black Sakura Pigma Micron pen
& photo corners by Paperchase.

I have not joined Wanderlust
at Everything Art this year,
a purposeful decision to enable me
to work freely in my own style
& to my own timetable.

The finale of my
Poetry ReImagined
project in my mixed media collage journal.


I used Daler-Rowney Gesso Primer,
Faber-Castell watercolour pencils,
the girl & boy images from the Graphics Fairy,
the Bingo card from Red Lead Paperworks
design & tissue tape by Tim Holtz
& printed text.


with hope for spring
red leaves have fallen
berries ripe for eating
feed the hungry birds
awaiting brighter days



the short dark days
the rain that fell
from thickly clouded skies
through depths of water
so greatly gathered all around

all is changed
future still uncertain
but my love remains
my heart grows stronger
with each passing day

watersoluble wax pastels
by Caran d'Ache in
Golden Ochre, Olive, Gold
White, Beige, Greyish Black
& Malachite Green.

I have used an old childhood photograph.

The Paper Dolls are from Tim Holtz
as are two of the three tapes.

I have also used an old dictionary,
some old gold foiled white tissue paper,
words cut out or torn from my old edition
 of Pride & Prejudice
& pages from an old copy
of Daphne's Diary magazine.
