Sharpie Zs

Strange how things come back around.

I purchased a couple of black fine point Sharpie pens in the supermarket this week ... just because ... didn't need a reason.

Then something else happened which prompted me to create Zentangles again.

For the first one, I followed the strict rules, bar one. The size of my z tile should be 3½ inches square, but I made mine 2 inch square, commonly known as a Twinchie. My tile is made from white mountboard.

I draw the grid & string image lightly with a pencil, then picked up my Sharpie to play.

I rounded the corners (as instructed) using a previous unused pair of nail clippers to snip off the sharp edges & smoothed them with my craft emery board.

The process of rounding off the corners & the fact that I was using a permanent ink pen, draw me into picking up a domino & away I went ...

I really need a ultra fine point to work on small pieces like this ... I need to find my stash of blank drinks coasters ... now where did I put them?

Zs are perfect for holiday crafting, as all you need to take with you are some blank tiles, a pencil, eraser (to rub away the grid lines) & a pen.

Being Arty

The challenge on Arty Girlz is to make something on the theme of Wings.

I covered a domino using Adirondack Acrylic Paint (Hazelnut). Once this had dried, I stamped over the paint with my own wiggly line stamp using Archival Ink (Sepia).
I added various elements; bird images from my own source, leaves cut from K&Company paper, a strip of vellum & a word doo-dad from the Tim Holtz distressables range.

On three of the corners, I scratched through the paint to reveal the white domino underneath.
I covered the top with Glossy Accents & edged it with a Krylon 18ct gold leafing pen.

Flights of Fancy

The domino was coloured with Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink (lettuce). The dragonfly stamp from Clarity Stamps, was stamped with Archival Ink (Sepia). The words were typed, the font selected, printed onto glossy card and inked over. The front of the domino was then covered with Glossy Accents.

Once dry, it was edged with 18kt Gold Leafing Krylon pen. The dragonfly image was stamped onto cream vellum and the wings cut out. Finally two gold coloured gems were added.

Butterfly Art

This is an altered domino.

I coloured the domino with Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks(cranberry & wild plum).

I inked up the Art stamp, by Elusive Images from Graphicus,
with black Archival ink.

I then pressed the stamp onto the domino & then wiped the wet ink off.

The archival ink removes some of the alcohol ink to leave a ghost of the original stamped image.

I drew around the outline of the letters with an embossing pen
then heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

Finally I coated the domino with Glossy Accents & added my butterfly.
