Playtime

Week 25 on the Wanderlust online course had a technical lesson
by Jamie Avery on using metal,
whilst Kasia's lesson was using air dried clay
to create a tile reinforcing our course values from January.

My three words from January were

play
refine
develop

I picked the shortest to fit onto my tile.

Once kneaded, I used a wooden rolling pin to roll out my clay,
then pressed in some Tim Holtz Grungboard letters to spell my word.

I also used a K & Company key
& some old lace
& an embossing tool to make indents into the soft clay.

Once dried, I added colour.
I used
Tim Holtz Distress Inks (broken china/peeled paint/weathered wood)
Dina Wakley Media Glazing Medium
Ranger Perfect Pearls
Uni-ball Signo Permanent Ink pens (Gold/White)

I think next time I will gesso my piece before adding the colour,
as most of it has absorbed into the clay.

Also my tile was too thin & indents dried too small
to add the other items I really wanted to include,
to make it a truly mixed media piece.

The One Day Project: Magpie Mail

Today I would like to share another page in my vintage collage journal.

The journal is made from altered 3½ inch square drinks coasters.

Just using scraps of paper & a gluestick.

Scissors & a sanding block.

Blending colours,
following the movement of the images
& enjoying the pure essence of creativity.

You can read the story behind this project here.

2017 Index Card A Day - 6 to 10

Below are the results from the second week
of the Index Card A Day creative challenge,
which began on 1st June.

I am not following Tammy's daily prompts,
instead I am working my way through a new art book
to find my daily inspiration.

This year I am using
abstracts in acrylic & ink
by
Jodi Ohl

Index Card 6

Index Card 7

Index Card 8

Index Card 9

Index Card 10

Another week, another set of completed index cards,
none of which appear anything like Jodi's examples,
but each one will act as a reference guide for her techniques.

It's all about learning
as I play.
Learning what I like,
learning what I don't like,
finding out which ones
have the loudest voice
& speak to me.

2017 Index Card A Day - 1 to 5

The Index Card A Day creative challenge,
began on 1st June.

This is my third year & as I did last year,
I am using a new art book
to find my daily inspiration.

For me, ICAD is the perfect excuse
to open a previously unread book
& explore it's hidden depths.

This year I am using
abstracts in acrylic & ink
by
Jodi Ohl

Index Card 1

Index Card 2

Index Card 3

Index Card 4
Index Card 5

None of these turned out the way I had expected.

I am out of my comfort zone,
experiencing uncertainty & surprise,
delight & frustration,
& a strong determination to continue.

It is all about the doing,
the daily practice of being creative in some way,
forming habits,
exercising those creative muscles
& having fun.
