Art Journal Week 12

This is the page in my art journal for week 12.

This is my Artist Trading Card (ATC) for The Craft Barn Alpha Challenge.

You can find out more about this ATC, by clicking here.

This weekend was Easter & the clocks were put forward one hour.

I have followed the prompt on Colour Me Positive, which was expanding.

So the Artist Trading Card springs open
to reveal a graphic from Brave Girls University (BGU),
incorporating the additional prompt from CMP of spreading our wings.

The background was created to match Week 11,
using acrylic paint over a white gesso base,
then grid lines using watercolour pencils.

The patterned paper is from K & Company.

Here are the pages from Week 11 & Week 12 side by side.

Growing in Resilience

The Alpha Challenge at The Craft Barn is a year long creative challenge,
using a letter from the alphabet every two weeks as inspiration.

The next letter (as it is not being done in alphabetical order) is
G
& we must include a definition of our chosen word.

I am making a set of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) for this challenge.

I have chosen the word
Growth

Following my theme of Resilience for this year,
we should look for
& be learning something new from,
each & every day.

We should have a mindset of growth.

The words were cut from the same old book that I use as a resource for my work.

The definition is from an old pocket dictionary.

I have used an old family photograph & patterned paper by K & Company.

This ATC will have a place in my Art Journal for Week 12.

Art Journal Week 11

This is the page in my art journal for week 11.

I have followed the prompt on Colour Me Positive, which this week was
Intuition.

I had a short break away this week.

The background for the Artist Trading Card (ATC) was taken from a photograph
of a decoupaged fish, one of many, all decorated differently,
on display in a harbour I visited during this week.

On the reverse it has a small photograph & space for notes.

Here is a picture of the fish.

I loved the shade of blue used for the base, then all the layers of torn newsprint,
flowers & other imagery used by the artist.

This is a small pocket to hold the business card of a restaurant that I stopped at for lunch.

The inchies this week reflect the seaside -
blue mulberry paper for the sky, with wispy clouds,
the bottom one is textured wood, representing the sea
& finally one with sand from the beach.

The background was created using acrylic paint (butternut)
over a white gesso base,
then I used watercolour pencils to create the grid lines.

Art Journal Week 10

This is my art journal page for Week 10.

I followed the prompt on Colour Me Positive.

The butterflies were from last month's BGU class.

The Artist Trading Card (ATC) is for The Craft Barn Alpha Challenge,
to find out more, please click here.

The page background is acrylic paint (Tidepool) over a white gesso base,
then I stamped a Crafty Individuals crackle background rubber stamp
using Distress Ink (broken china).

I then splattered acrylic paint (white) over the top.

Here are Weeks 9 & 10 side by side.

Taking Responsibility

The Alpha Challenge at The Craft Barn is a year long creative challenge,
using a letter from the alphabet every two weeks as inspiration.

The next letter (as it is not being done in alphabetical order) is
R
& we must include a definition of our chosen word.

I am making a set of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) for this challenge.

I have chosen the word
Responsibility

In a world where blame culture is rife,
we should remember to own our actions,
instead of looking for excuses elsewhere.

Accept responsibility,
reclaim your power,
live your own life.

The three single words at the top were cut from
the same old book that I use as a resource for my work.

The image of the girl is from Hermine Koster.

The patterned paper is by K & Company.

This ATC will have a place in my Art Journal for Week 10.

Art Journal Week 9

This is my art journal page for Week 9.

The Truth Card is for this month's Soul School class from BGU.

I used the patterned papers provided,

together with a butterfly from last month's class.

I also followed the art journal prompt on Colour Me Positive.

The stamped image is the Tim Holtz mini rubber stamp that I use for my avatar.
The words were cut from an old book.

The page background is acrylic paint (Tidepool) over a white gesso base,
then I stamped a Crafty Individuals crackle background rubber stamp
using Distress Ink (broken china).

The gridlines were drawn with a Distress Marker (black soot).

I then splattered acrylic paint (white) over the top.

I have chosen some music to go with this week's page.

I have added some of the lyrics to both sides of the bottom ATC.

Art Journal Week 8

This is the completed art journal page for Week 8.

The background is acrylic paint over a white gesso base.

Whilst the paint was still damp, I used a wet wipe over a stencil,
removing some of the paint, revealing the white gesso underneath.

The white grid lines were made using a white Signo pen.

The Artist Trading Card (ATC) was made for The Craft Barn Alpha Challenge.

Click here to find out more about this piece.

Artist Trading Card (ATC)
I have followed the week's prompt on Colour Me Positive.

Following the Be Fearless prompt, I used a combination of different textured pieces,
held together with just a few stitches of gold thread.

Learning to embrace imperfection.
