A Knowing Nod

Week 48 of my
Poetry ReImagined
project in my mixed media collage journal,
with inspiration from poet John Clare.

with russet bib, he brightens my day
a knowing nod in morning greeting
for evening farewell a graceful bow
from frosty morn to fallen dusk
his delicate song my heart fills

I used Daler-Rowney Gesso Primer,
a Faber-Castell watercolour pencil,
an image from Shawn Petite (background)
a bird image from the Graphics Fairy,
Ranger Glossy Accents
& printed text.

Preparing for Advent

Kasia Avery at Everything Art
is running another
Advent Calendar
event this December.

I made another journal to use for this project,
using up spare paper
from my 2019 journal,
a ledger by 7 Gypsies.

This journal is 3¾  x  5½ inches.

The cover uses copies of two of my pages
from last year's event.

Inside there is one signature
stitched with jute cord,
with seven pieces of paper,
which creates a journal with 28 pages.

I prepped the pages with
clear gesso by Liquitex.

Kasia suggests gathering
a few key supplies together,
keeping them neat, tidy
& readily accessible for each day.

I will be using Neocolor II watersoluble wax pastels
by Caran d'Ache in
Golden Ochre, Olive, Gold
White, Beige, Greyish Black
& Malachite Green.

I have also selected two design tapes
from Tim Holtz
(& one whose origin I have forgotten)

together
with a selection of his small paper dolls.

If you would like to join in,
registration closes on
5th December 2019.

Questions

Week 47 of my
Poetry Reimagined
project in my mixed media collage journal.

what is time,
when so often wasted
what is distance,
when wings can take flight
what is love,
when only felt by absence
where is home
and where is not
what does it all mean
and does is really matter

I used Liquitex Clear Gesso,
Mod Podge (Matte),
old dress pattern paper,
a Cicely Mary Barker image
(cut out from an old book),
Tim Holtz Design Tape
& printed text.

As Night Descends

Week 46 of my
Poetry Reimagined
project in my mixed media collage journal,
inspired this week by DH Lawrence.

day ends as night descends
ground frozen, the air thickly black
the moon crawls silently across a starlit sky
no other sound is heard but loud silence
my thoughts attend to words left unsaid

I used Liquitex Clear Gesso,
Faber-Castell watercolour pencils,
copy of an old photo,
an image from the Graphics Fairy,
Tim Holtz Tissue Tape
& printed text.

Be Thankful

The third prompt for Dina Wakley's
Year of Gratitude
challenge is
Friendship.

I used Dina Wakley Blank Media Tape
to first create the vertical striped background,
using Dina Wakley Media Lapis acrylic paint,
mixed with white gesso.

Then I took some of the painted tape
to create horizontal interest.

There is an image from the Graphics Fairy,
with kraft photo corners &
words are cut out from an old edition
of Pride & Prejudice.

Just a small piece of grosgrain ribbon to finish.

I am working in a small Black Cloth Hardback Sketchbook
by Seawhite of Brighton.

The paper is 140gsm.

Mourn not

Week 45 of my
Poetry Reimagined
project in my mixed media collage journal.

summer has passed, but mourn her not
think of her often and
remember her with fondness
let not tears fall as the rain
for what she once was,
she will be again

I used Liquitex Clear Gesso,
Faber-Castell watercolour pencils,
old dress pattern paper,
a Cicely Mary Barker image
(cut out from an old book),
& printed text.

My Shadow Self

Week 44 of my
Poetry Reimagined
project in my mixed media collage journal.

although I never see her
I know that she is there
yet when the sun shines brightly
I sometimes spy a glimpse
my opposite, my counterpart,
my elusive shadow self

I used a Faber-Castell watercolour pencil,
Tim Holtz Tissue Tape with
an image from the Graphics Fairy.
