Leap of Faith

Another page in my
Wanderlust 2018 collage journal
on the current theme of
Hills & Mountains.

I used an image from a magazine,
with words & letters cut out
from a newspaper.

The idea behind this piece,
is that once we have climbed a steep hill
or traversed a rough mountain side,
we need to open our wings
& take a leap of faith.

birds were called 8

For the 2018 Index Card A Day creative challenge,
I am creating a paper collage & ink series entitled

birds were called

The challenge started on 1st June & runs daily through until the end of July.

My aim for ICAD this year,
in addition to being creative each day,
is to focus on colour observations &
examine balance & flow within each piece of art.

I am using ruled index cards which are 4 x 6 inches.

Below are cards 50 to 55.

Card 50: difference
Card 51: bill
Card 52: The long
Card 53: individual
Card 54: measured
Card 55: leave

The lined index cards were purchased from WH Smith
in a clear plastic two holed ring binder.

I am using scraps of coloured card,
some used envelopes,
Distress Inks,
Mod Podge,
& printed bird names.

The images & book text are cut from a bird handbook,
found at a charity shop last year.

Getting the Right Perspective

A double page spread in my collage journal
for the new Wanderlust 2018 theme,
which is

Hills &
Mountains.

I used two magazine images
& one of my own photographs
taken from the top of the hill
near where I live.

The butterflies & word label
are from Eliza's Collage Collection.

My own photograph at the bottom
There is also Tim Holtz Tissue Tape
Stabilo All Black pencil
& printed text (my own words).

The butterflies are in three different sizes
as a reference to Jamie's class this week.

I am working in spare pages
from my edition of Wreck this Journal,
keeping them clean & simple,
yet creating pages which provoke thought
& prompt memories.

When hills & mountains
appear in our life,
let's see what is waiting
for us at the top.

We just need to have
the courage to climb
the obstacles in front of us.

Once at the top
rest a while,
take time
to look around
& you may gain
a new perspective.

The Dimensional Quest

This project was made using a Chunky ATC
by That's Crafty.

question
These come flat,
so you need to glue the pieces together
to create your chunky ATC,
which then measures 2½ x 3½ x 1½ inches.

play
To create the textured base,
I used tissue paper.

search
The texture is then highlighted
by using various colours of
metallic rub-ons.

discover
The collage elements
were a free download
from Cloth Paper Scissors,
designed by Seth Apter.

think
There is also a postcard
from CPS
fabric & cotton thread
& finally Tim Holtz Doo Dads.

find
It has a different feel
to my first Chunky ATC
seen here.
which demonstrates
the versatility of this substrate.

be memorable

This project was made using a Chunky ATC
by That's Crafty.

be memorable
for all the
right reasons

These come flat,
so you need to glue the pieces together
to create your chunky ATC,
which then measures 2½ x 3½ x 1½ inches.

I covered it with white gesso,
then sanded back the edges.

I used patterned card by Tim Holtz
to decorate the six sides.

There is a Paper Doll
Remnant Rubs Elements
& a word definition torn
from an old dictionary.

I wrapped string around the sides
& attached a key to the top knot.

Rest a While

Time for a quick project.

I used an old dvd as the base for this piece,
with collage images from Shawn Petite.

There is also printed text,
Tim Holtz Tissue Tape &
Glossy Accents.

I used Distress Ink (black soot)
on the edges of the hearts & dvd.

Today, if you are feeling tired & weary,
sit & rest for a while
until you feel strong enough to fly again.

Preserving Memories

Another double page spread in my Wanderlust Collage Journal.

The current online course theme is
Meadows.

This week we were adding pressed flowers to our journal pages.

Not sure if my pages are finished, but here they are.

The flowers were picked in April 2017,
pressed & kept until I needed them.

Flowers picked April 2017 ready for pressing
I have also added some freshly picked flowers to my previous Meadows page.

Here is the original photograph.

With the extra pressed flowers.

To protect the flowers, I have inserted a vellum sheet between each page.

The flowers were adhered using Mod Podge.

I added a little gold patterned tape.
