At home with Mother

This is an inchie made using the challenge word prompt found on Every Inchie Monday.

This week's prompt is
home.

My inchie is created from an inch square of white mountboard &
covered using patterned paper from Hot off the Press
& an image from Outsider Artists.

To add to the vintage, faded & distressed feel, I sand all the edges.

Texture Tuesday

The Texture Tuesday challenge this week is to use at least one layer of Kim's YesterYear texture.

The original photograph was taken last week on a visit to the site at Herculaneum on a hot sunny day.

I used two layers of the YesterYear texture & composed a haiku for added visual interest.

"a lone red Poppy
grows amidst hot dry ruins
& sad memories"

Alone with her thoughts ...

This is an inchie made using the challenge word prompt found on Every Inchie Monday.

This week's prompt is solitude.

My inchie is created from an inch square of white mountboard & covered using patterned paper from Hot off the Press & an image from the Old Photo Album blog.

I added a small button for added dimensional interest.

Green Paper Challenge: Day Dreaming

A tag made using images from Mary at Green Paper.

All blended digitally, then printed out & adhered to a mountboard tag base.

With a little quick sanding around all the edges, a hole was punched in the top
& it was added to my Green Paper Tag Book.

Birthday Card

A birthday card made using the Moody Blues range from The Shabby Princess,
which is perfect for male cards.

The Happy Birthday motif is layered, to add dimension.

The two mock epoxy squares were covered in Rangers Glossy Accents.

The edges were sanded to remove the harsh printed edges.

Finally, I wrapped black organza ribbon through a slit in the spine
& around the front of the card, securing it with a knot.

Home Sweet Home

The prompt this month for the GPP Street Team Crusade set by Michelle
is Home Sweet Home.

I have continued to work in the same board book as the past two crusades,
which is a dimensional book from Eco Green Crafts.

In case, dear reader, you have been wondering,
the dimensions of the board book are four inches by four inches.

You can now appreciate the scale of the pieces involved,
especially those used this month.

To start the crusade this month, I created a fabric noticeboard,
using a leftover piece of Laura Ashley fabric from a cushion I made a few years back.

Under the fabric are two pieces of funky foam with a mountboard backing.

The foam enabled me to give dimension to the noticeboard
especially when attaching the gingham ribbon with the rocaille beads.

I used copies of old family postcards & photographs,
a copy of the Land Registry plan for one of the properties,
a cat charm (home isn't home without a cat) & a small set of keys.

Whilst thinking about the prompt for the crusade this month,
I realised that I couldn't remember the addresses of all the places where I have lived,
so the main focus of my project was to document the details
& record memories associated with each address.

I opted for a Bingo card style of tag,
using an old image from Abbie at Percy & Bloom,
the luminous digital texture from Kim Klassen
& a clip art image of a house. I also used a butterfly image from Dover
& a label image provided by Michelle to tie this project to the others.

The tags live in a pocket created from patterned paper
from K & Company designed by Brenda Walton.

Each tag has a label denoting the number of each address.

The labels are adhered on one side, so the road name can be read on the reverse.

The pattern on the reverse of the tag is taken from the Land Registry document already mentioned.

Finally, I will write down positive memories of living at each address.

Such as the house that I was born in,
the address where we had a strawberry patch at the bottom of the garden,
where my father kept caterpillars feeding them nettles
until the day we released them into the garden as beautiful butterflies,
the address where I could go gathering fresh walnuts, cob nuts, crab apples & blackberries
or play happily in the stream or climb trees ...

Texture Tuesday

There is an open theme for the Texture Tuesday photographic challenge today.

I selected a photograph taken during a leisurely walk through the local forest, in dappled sunlight.

I used two textures from Kim's Past Favorites collection (Scripted & Cool Grunge),
which I was thrilled to win in the recent giveaway, plus a layer of the Portrait texture.

"Through dappled sunlight
as dried twigs snap under foot
Birds so sweetly sing"

Here is the original photograph.

Texture Tuesday

This week for the Texture Tuesday challenge, Kim has asked us to use at least one of her texture layers on a photograph of our tea or coffee cup.

My photograph is of an antique 22 carat gold gilded cup & saucer,
resting on a pocket book of Friendship poems.

Both treasures were found in my local charity shop last year.

I used multiple layers of Kim's chamomile texture.

There was a gap which I just had to fill with one of my Dover butterflies.

Here is the original photograph.

The poem shown is by John Masefield.

BEING HER FRIEND

Being her friend, I do not care, not I,
How gods or men may wrong me, beat me down;
Her word's sufficient star to travel by,
I count her quiet praise sufficient crown.

Being her friend, I do not covet gold,
Save for a royal gift to give her pleasure;
To sit with her, and have her hand to hold,
Is wealth, I think, surpassing minted treasure.

Being her friend, I only covet art,
A white pure flame to search me as I trace
In crooked letters from a throbbing heart,
The hymn to beauty written on her face.
